1. The launch of Nokia Lumia by Astari Laksmiwati
Nokia made a smooth entrance in introducing their new WindowsPhone7-based product, Lumia. Two of their pre-launch event had been buzzing on the Twittersphere this week.
First, #CodingLumia24Hours whereby Nokia embraced the developer community by organizing a record-breaking event called ‘The Amazing Nokia Lumia Developer Day’ in Bandung, early February. They invited more than 800 developers to create applications for Nokia Lumia in 24-hour time. Nokia Lumia 800 would then be given to 8 best applications, and all applications would be included in Windows Phone Marketplace to be used worldwide. Given the fact that nowadays mobile applications are the main attraction in buying a smartphone, this event is quite a smart move done by Nokia. More details on the event had been published in TeknoJurnal and you can click here for more info.
Second, aimed to be launch at the end of February, this week Nokia held their Nokia Lumia Pre-launch Party for the media and invited guests/social media personalities (Feb 7) at Bistro Boulevard, Jakarta. The euphoria from the event was spotted on Twittersphere as all guests tweeted that they got a goodiebag with Nokia Lumia 800 inside. The phone worth around IDR 5 million, bundled with Monster headphones. There were comments made about the phone’s sleek design, the camera feature, and the unique rubik-packaging.
Although the tagline/buzzword used for Nokia Lumia is ‘Amazing’, it seemed like Nokia hadn’t promote any official hashtags using that particular word on Twitter. There were spontaneous tweets with the hashtag #LumiaHore instead (as can be seen above), initiated by regular buzzers such as @chikastuff, @goenrock, etc. For more details on the event, you can check one of the guest’s review here.
2. Dada Rosada: You’ve been Jaw-ed! by Hanny Kusumawati
The name of Dada Rosada, the Mayor of Bandung, West Java, came into the Twitterverse when he released a statement encouraging people to eat sharks. “Let’s eat fish! Sharks that are usually eating humans, will be eaten by us!” he said as stated in Antara, and then picked up by Republika. The link to the news piece flooded the Twitterverse especially after it was being republished via Yahoo News, along with people’s disappointment and anger directed towards the misleading statement issued by the Mayor. People are raising their voices, saying that Hollywood movies like Jaws made us think of sharks as human-eating monsters, while in reality this was not the case. Moreover, sharks are protected animals. There has been more than 500 tweets circulating about this issue so far.
3. iPad 3 by Jonathan Tenggara
After the conversation surrounding the official launch of iPhone 4s in Indonesia last week, it’s time for iPad 3 to take the podium. Even without the former legend, Steve Jobs, Apple and its products continue to become one of the hottest topic when it comes to technology, gadget and computer.
Today, people were discussing about iPad 3′s launching date on Twitter. Articles published on several news portal such as detikinet.comteknologi.vivanews.com, and tekno.kompas.com had triggered this discussion. The rumor said that Apple Inc. would launch iPad 3 in the beginning of March 2012. This rumor actually corresponds with the company’s habit of launching a new product on the first quarter. Pictures of the allegedly iPad 3 had been widely circulated as well. The picture only displayed the back of the device. In the mean time, Apple Inc. haven’t officially announced the launching date for their iPad 3.
4. Indonesian Presidential (Paper) Plane by Muhammad Daud
People’s rejection and disappointment over the government’s decision to buy a new Presidential jet plane flooded Indonesia’s social media timeline this week. Journalist Wisnu Nugroho (@beginu) who observes closely the presidential activities had shared a story on Twitter about a chartered Garuda Indonesia’s plane that had been used since 7 years ago. Using the hashtag #PesawatRI, he shared some details about the inside of the plane and his thoughts about the USD 91 million new jet plane the President is planning to buy. He argued that the government’s lack of maintenance efforts for this kind of facility will make the decision inefficient. Political observer, Fadjroel Rachman (@fadjroel) invited people to criticize the President’s decision with the hashtag  #SatuJutaPesawatKertasUntukSBY (1 million paper plane for Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono).

5. Pinterest by Nadia Sabrina

“The surprise smash-hit social networking site of 2011 wasn’t Twitter, Tumblr or Google+. In fact, it was a site that, even today, is still an invite-only social network. The Palo Alto site Pinterest has skyrocketed into the top ten most visited social networksof the past year and continues to gain traction and popularity.” - Mashable, January 2012

After Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr, now Indonesia is hooked on Pinterest! What is Pinterest? Pinterest (pronounced to rhyme with “interest”) is a vision board-styled social photo sharing website and app where users can create and manage their own theme-based image collections. Most interestingly, the principle of scarcity took place here since people cannot join Pinterest unless they got invited!

Similar to other social networks available, Pinterest allows users to follow each other, adding a bookmark to web browsers, pinning images from other sites, adding a certain price, posting a video, and creating competition! Pinterest would be a fresh platform for brands in highly-visual industry, such as: fashion, travel, toys, or photography. Some international brands had been using Pinterest as their new channel for communicating and sharing things with their audience. Who’s the first brand who will be using Pinterest in Indonesia? We’ll see!
